Comedy duo's Dales filming trip impresses

Comedy duo

Comedians Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan have been enjoying the Yorkshire Dales scenery while filming for their latest venture.

The pair were shooting footage yesterday at Gordale Scar, the 100m-deep limestone gorge near Malham. Rob’s verdict on Twitter was succinct: ‘Stunning’ and ‘Wow’.

Other locations visited by the duo include Bolton Abbey in Wharfedale where, according to the Craven Herald, Steve managed to slip off the stepping stones and into the River Wharfe.

The stand-up comedians, who have featured in some of British TV’s top comedies, are currently filming The Trip, described as a ‘semi-fictional’ account of the men’s visits to six top restaurants in the North.

Steve Coogan’s creations include Alan Partridge, the quivering drunk Paul Calf and his female counterpart Pauline Calf, Portuguese singing star Tony Ferino and prog-rock pest exterminator Tommy Saxondale.

Rob Brydon is best known for his recent role in Gavin and Stacey, hosting Would I Lie to You?, the morose divorcee taxi driver Keith Barret and has also spent time delving into his Welshness with Rob Brydon’s Identity Crisis. His current obsession seems to be the colour and length of his socks.

“It's Rob Brydon and me going around as ourselves reviewing restaurants,” said Steve.

“It's not about a character assassination of restaurants – they've all signed up – it's about restaurant celebrities and their fashion-grabbing with food.

“I'm playing myself not really knowing what I'm doing, and the fact is that I don't really know what I'm doing.”

The Trip is due to air in the summer.
